Watermelon is… Watery

Ok so the next new food that I have decided to try on my picky eating adventures is watermelon.  This is another fruit that I have an idea what it will taste like because of all of the watermelon flavored candies and other things but haven’t really tried the actual fruit itself so I will need to get used to the texture.

Before trying the watermelon I did a little research to help familiarize myself with this new fruit and get used to the idea of trying one and I didn’t realize that watermelon could be so good for you.  Some of the health benefits of watermelon include improving your eye health and boosting the immune system in several different ways with Vitamin A, Vitamin B6, and Vitamin C.  It is a source of potassium which is a mineral necessary for water balance.   It also has the highest concentrations of lycopene, a powerful antioxidant that helps fight heart disease and several types of cancer, of any fresh fruit or vegetable.

Fun Fact: Did you know that watermelon’s are 92% water?!

Ok so now for my impression after actually trying a watermelon.  The first thing that I noticed is that I understand where the 92% water comes from; they are really juicy.  The other thing I noticed right away is the misnomer of a seedless watermelon.  We got a mini seedless watermelon and it is not actually seedless as they claim.   Instead of the bigger black seeds there are just smaller white seeds (that’s what she said).  I was nervous about these when I went to take the first bite.  They are not as noticeable as the strawberry seeds were though.  The watermelon flesh itself has a crisp texture and the flavor itself is sweet.  The closest thing I can compare it to is a less dense, juicier apple.  Overall, I think I like the flavor but still trying to get used to the texture.
