Schnitzel In Cologne, Germany!

My food adventures are starting to become international!  This weekend I tried schnitzel in Cologne, Germany!  Isn’t that amazing?!?!  So I was a little nervous about what I was going to eat in Germany but decided to sit down, grab a kolsch, and actually go for it and try something new.  I found this place called Sunner im Walfisch in a building that has been standing since 1626 so figured it looked like a good place to try.  I decided to order a wiener schnitzel because I think that is one of many traditional German dishes. From what I understand schnitzel is a thin meat that has been pounded down, breaded, and pan fried.  As far as the texture goes the outside was very crispy and the inside was softer and juicy but still takes some chewing.  For the taste the outside part actually kind of reminded me of the crispy parts of my family’s pancakes, like if you ever have a little pancake really crisped up or a little drop off to the side that gets crispy.  I don’t know if it was the oil that was used or just the type of breading but for some reason it reminded me of that.  So I guess these are a type of cutlets which I tried myself before but these seemed to be thinner and stayed crispy on pretty much both sides.  The french fries that came with it were also really good.  Lemon pieces came with the schnitzel but I did not put any of the lemon on them this time.   It was surprisingly more food than I would have thought with just these two schnitzels but I did make it through one whole one for my meal along with lots of the french fries!
