Fish and Chips and Steak Sandwich in Dublin!

I have moved my picky eating adventures to other countries starting this weekend with trying new foods in Dublin, Ireland!  I challenged myself to be able to order something that I wouldn’t normally while on this trip and I did!  There were two big new foods that I ordered that I wouldn’t normally have and those are fish and chips and a steak sandwich!

First I had another ham and cheese panini at a pub when I first arrived in Dublin and the bread they used was really good.  Though I have to say that the thick “chips” or fries are not as good as in Belgium.

Next I ordered out a goat cheese and raspberry tart that had a salad with it and the cheese was really good.  The tart was a little weird because it had little pieces of something in it.  It wasn’t just a smooth jam or jelly consistency for the tart.  I tried little bits of the salad around it as well.

Then I also decided to go out on a limb and order a the steak sandwich.  More specifically it was a steak sandwich with onions and peppers on it as well.  It was pretty large and again the bread they used for it was really good.  It is hard to keep it all together and prevent everything from falling out of the sandwich.  It is still weird to me that the steak has a different texture and consistency in different places depending on how it was cooked.  So you get one thickness and texture on the outside and a different one on the inside of the steak.  I am also unsure how I feel about the juices sinking into the bread of the sandwich.    These chips were a bit better but still not as good as in Brussels.

The last big new one was fish and chips!  The fish I got was specifically cod and they battered it and fried it.  This was definitely a new one for me.  I am alright with the fried exterior which is crunchier and then you have the fish interior which is much softer and flakier.  It is weird when it breaks apart and you can kind of see the skin of the fish from where it was fried.  The taste itself is fishy and kind of lighter and not as chewy as some of the other meats like steak.  So I like the fried portion where it is surrounding and kind of masking the fish a bit and adding another texture to it.

Last but not least, I had a fun little dessert that was not a new food but was a delicious chocolate pecan tart with some nice hot chocolate and marshmallows.  Yum!

  1. What an unbelievable amount of food you tried here! Good for you! Which one did you like the best? Dad loves steak and onion sandwiches but I can’t eat the onions in the sandwich, yet I like them cooked in other things such as sauce but it has to be cooked really well. We all have a little idiosyncrasies want to comes to food. Good job Jess!
