Shrimp with Sauce and Vegetables

So I bought this little frozen food shrimp meal from Picard and have been hesitant to try it because I was nervous about the shrimps but I tried it anyway.  So I am not really sure if they cooked the way they were supposed to.  They seem pretty pink on the bottom side of them but have a little bit of the grey still on the top.  How to describe shrimp?   Well they definitely do not taste like what I thought they would taste like.  I expected them to be a little milder and lighter but they are fishy and chewy.  I wouldn’t really say they are any lighter, the meat of the shrimp is more dense than I would have thought.  You have to bite through them kind of through the skin a bit.  They do taste pretty similar to what they smell like just not as strong as the smell once they are cooked.  Then for the vegetables there seems to be little pieces of carrots and peas and some other type of vegetable as well covered in a lemon and coconut milk sauce as well. The sauce or liquid kind of gathered at the bottom so they are moist and wet.  The carrots are alright and the peas still have a bit of crunch to them.  Overall, this was not one of my favorites so far but feel good that I tried it.  For my next try at shrimp I am going to see if I can get it from a restaurant or someone who knows who they should be cooked.

  1. Pink is fine for shrimp. What you’re really looking for is opacity. As long as it is opaque, rather than translucent, the shrimp is fully cooked and you’re fine. The gray part is the shrimp’s intestine, and removing it is called “deveining” it. While most people cut this part off (slice along the back of the shrimp and pull it out) for texture and looks, it’s not harmful to eat. I love seafood, but in I tend to avoid it if it’s in a frozen dinner, because it usually ends up chewy and overcooked. Definitely better to make from scratch or have in a restaurant.
